2023 J Pro Tour Round 14Gunma CSC Road Race September Tournament [DAY1]Date September 23, 2023Venue/Course: Gunma Cycle Sports Center (6km circuit course clockwise)Distance (category): 120kmParticipants Abe (14th) Fujii (35th) Yokoya (47th) Setoguchi (DNF) Eric (DNF)
Round 14 was held at Gunma CSC, not far from Minamiuonuma last week. The maximum temperature was 24 degrees, compared to last week's race in 35 degrees. Once in the shade, it's cold enough to wear short sleeves.Abe and Fujii seem to be doing well, so we will focus on that. In Minamiuonuma, we were on the back foot, so we started the race by focusing and thinking constantly so that we could move on as the race progressed. The race continued to be fast from the start for about three laps, and from the second lap, Yokoya ran away and joined the group. The members are EF Oda, Bridgestone Kono, and Yokoya. The time difference is about 20 seconds. On the 4th lap, the main group was closing in on me by 10 seconds, and I thought I would be absorbed, but the group was also running quite fast, so they scattered. As a result, a leading group of 10 people was formed.EF Kadota, Oda playersShimano Kazama, Nakai, Terada playersGunma Griffin KanekoBS Kono playerKanoya Okochi playerBellmare Yoneuchi playerKinan MagosakiAvenir YokoyaThe group, which had a number of winning candidates in it, was running smoothly and had a 2 minute lead over the main group. The group was led by Iname, who was unable to make a run for it. EF's Tome also had a 2-minute difference in the race, with the next development likely to occur. The race continued as it was, reaching the 13th lap. Yokoya is unable to close the small gap and drops from the run.He decides to entrust the race to Abe and Fujii. However, the main group slowed down after that, and the competition was narrowed down to eight riders in the lead group. With two laps remaining, Shimano Nakai, Griffin Kaneko, and EF Kadota broke away and Nakai won the sprint. Kaneko is second. Next was Kadota.Among the main group, a battle to attack started with two laps left to aim for a higher position, and Abe did well, but Fujii and Yokoya dropped out.Abe, who was second in the main group's sprint, finished in 9th place. Fujii persevered and finished in 35th place. Yokoya continued to run away from the start and even after dropping, he continued to support Abe and Fujii and completed his work.
~Director's talk~We ran as a team today. First of all, Yokoya ran aggressively from the start today as well, despite having a bad image of him running away from the start last week and getting into the group and then falling behind. He decided to run away on the fastest lap, and his run was better than he expected. Don't forget that Yokoya's movements allowed the other members to save their legs.Abe ran comfortably from beginning to end, and Fujii was always in front of him. There is no doubt that if you refine your movements a little more, it will be reflected in your results.
~Yokoya story~I gradually realized that it was time to run away. Griffin's lead from Kaneko was so strong that it always felt like an interval. I think I was able to handle the corners and descents well because I had an advantage, but the traction was even greater than that.I want to improve my training so that I can withstand high power.
2023 J Pro Tour Round 15JBCF Gunma CSC Road Race September Tournament [DAY2]Date: September 24, 2023Venue/Course: Gunma Cycle Sports Center, Minakami City, Gunma Prefecture (1 lap 6km)Distance: 60kmParticipants: Abe (2nd place) Eric, Fujii, Yokoya, Setoguchi (DNF)
The second day was held at 60km, half the distance of yesterday. People tend to think that the shorter the distance, the easier it will be, but in fact, the opposite is true: the shorter the distance, the more condensed the development and the harder it becomes. The attack continues forever, so make sure to use your legs to avoid falling behind each time. Make sure to drive in a way that doesn't give you any regrets.
From the start to the finish line, it is almost impossible to run away, and even if you are able to run away, you are reset by jumping movements, which continues until the finish line.Abe and Fujii checked in and moved from the first half so as not to miss the development. Eric and Yokoya suffered a lot of damage from the previous day. Setoguchi is eliminated by Mechatra. On the 7th lap, Griffin Kaneko jumped out and Shimano Terada joined him. However, the time difference was just under 20 seconds, a distance that would allow him to catch up with just one quick pace.Due to the continued high pace, only Abe remained in the group and prepared for the final race.On the way, he tried to build a bridge to prevent the two players from escaping, but returned to the group to prepare for the goal match.
Shimano Nakai attacked on the last heart-breaking slope. Abe reacted a little later, but was unable to follow him, and three people, Iname Kato and Kinan Toma, succeeded in breaking out.Although Abe could not reach Nakai, he managed to escape from the group and finish in 2nd place. He managed to reach the podium in his 4th JPT race.He achieved his goal this season of finishing in the top three and standing on the podium.
~Director's talk~Abe showed his potential and finally got on the podium. This result was possible thanks to the support of his teammates. Although it was a happy result, in the end Abe was able to handle the race well by himself, resulting in 2nd place. The challenge is to improve the team's strength so that there are two or three players remaining so that they can compete. There's one month left until the final race at Kasumigaura, so I'd like to make some changes.
~Abe talk~I felt good and had no problems with my pace. I thought I would definitely be able to make it to the sprint today.I slipped out due to a check move midway through, but BS remained in the group, so I prepared for the final development. On the heart-breaking slope, he reacted too late to Nakai's attack and was unable to catch him before reaching the top, allowing him to escape. I'm happy about second place, but I really wanted to win.
